It’s been almost a year since I designed my first hat pattern. It feels like so long ago! I forced myself to read through my work, which in turn made me cringe. For example, I thought a half double crochet was a double crochet? This mistake leaves me feeling bewildered but it happened.
If you haven’t seen that first pattern, it’s right here. I’ll be keeping it up on my blog (with a disclaimer of course) as a reminder to myself of how far I’ve come in my pattern designing skills! (queue inspirational music & crochet montage here)
This time around I even crafted up some labels for selling and gifting my hats! I’ve included these printable labels in the paid version of this pattern.
Get the printable version of this pattern including a crochet diagram & label printables for packaging your crochet for $2.50 on Etsy.
And now without further ado, here is the updated pattern! Scroll down a little further to watch a video tutorial for this hat if you’d prefer (:

Love it! Can’t wait to start making it! Thanks for sharing the pattern!
Thank you! Let me know how it goes (:
This is the nicest winter hat that I have ever crocheted. It’s thick and warm, and here in Western New York, that is just what we need. I used a 4.25mm hook, because these old hands have loose tension. Fits perfectly! Thanks!
Thank you so much! It’s my favorite crochet hat too. Just thick enough to keep warm without being bulky.
Do you have this pattern crocheted in the round? I’m trying this tonight. Thanks for the pattern.
No I don’t /: this pattern works up in flat rows. Let me know if you need any help!
This hat looks amazing!
I’m trying to make it with a 4.5mm hook and my 46 initial chains are only long 20cm. Is there a way for me to make it longer, without screwing up the pattern?
Thanks!!
Thank you! You could ch 56 and do a 5 sl st, 5 hdc repeat between the sc brim and sl st top of the hat.
I hope this helps! I’m going to try to draw a diagram of the hat soon so that anyone can understand & alter the pattern.
What a darling hat and your tutorial is the best! Thank you so much!
Thank you! I’m still learning how record tutorials so I really appreciate your nice compliment (:
Very pretty hat!!!!. I’d love to make a scarf to match. Was trying to figure how many starting chains if I did it the long way (lengthwise). Is there a “multiple of” number of stitches I should use. Or do you have any recommendations? Thanks!
Hm I saw someone do this on Instagram with the wave pattern! It looked beautiful. A multiple of 10 (5 sl st + 5hdc) + 1 turning chain would probably work well.
Let me know how your scarf turns out!
thanks so much for the lovely pattern! quick question…do you think this pattern would be okay for a man’s hat? with dark colors perhaps? jw….tia!
Of course! My boyfriend has taken both of my wave beanies & he often gets complimented when we’re out together. I think as long as you’re working with a neutral shade it will look great.
Wonderful hat great tutorial..I’m making now…thank you for sharing😊
Thank you so much! Let me know if you have any questions!
