This year my Secret Santa had a bottle of wine on her wishlist. Because the budget limit for our gift swap is pretty low, It’s difficult to purchase a really special gift. I did some crochet ‘research’ to find low cost ways to make her gift last longer than just a bottle of wine.
I found a few neat ideas and patterns that can be applied to any bottle of wine to turn your hostess gift or office Secret Santa present into something really neat! The following patterns and photographs are from various designers, makers, and Etsy sellers that I admire.
This crochet pattern looks incredibly similar to a wine cozy I’d been eying up at Crate&Barrel for some time.
Made with super chunky yarn, this wine bottle cozy works up super quickly. You can purchase the pattern HERE on Etsy for $5.50. I love how the designer of this pattern used crochet to create a really modern, stylish centerpiece. The cover could be used again and again during the colder months as a cute water bottle cozy.
This pretty & simple wine tote is made with soft cotton yarn in a very appropriate wine shade. I love the addition of rustic wooden buttons and the handle for easy carrying.
These knitted hats look so festive! I found a free crochet pattern for hat ornaments here. You can use super thick roving wool and a giant crochet hook to make these hats in a few minutes.
While I have yet to work with roving wool it looks like so much fun! I put this roving wool crochet kit on my Christmas wishlist.
If you’re interested in knitting your own hats just like these, you can purchase the knitting pattern for them here.
I love the idea of recycling plastic bags into a much more sophisticated looking tote to be used again and again. These Wine bottle holders are created with plarn (yarn made from plastic bags). You can buy hand-spun plarn HERE or make your own with this plarn tutorial and a whole bunch of plastic bags.
While I can’t find the pattern for this specific wine holder, I discovered a really similar free pattern that you can check out HERE if you’re feeling particularly adventurous!
This looks awfully similar to a set gorgeous macrame covered glass apothecary jars I spotted a few months ago.
While there isn’t a pattern available for the crochet covered wine bottle, it’s too pretty not to share. This would make an awesome gift for a lover of wine and bohemian home decor! I love how crochet is used to transform an ordinary, disposable wine bottle into a keepsake.
Yet another eco-friendly option for wine transportation, this tote is made with t- shirt yarn. This tote should work up rather quickly! The thick, squishy texture of t-shirt yarn makes it perfect for protecting your bottle. I love the modern color block crochet style.
Crochet appliques are a great option for adding some spirit to your bottle if you’re short on time! I really like this knitted one from Bernat Yarns. If you’re a knitter, then you’re in luck! The pattern is free. If you aren’t, you can get a free pattern for Holly leaves here to crochet a something similar!
With yarn and a little bit of time, you can turn a bottle of wine into something really thoughtful.
